This is the second time I celebrated CNY in SG. When I first came, I just started work and did not have annual leaves. This year, I did not go back because our family not celebrating CNY.
Sis's father invited me for reunion dinner. We had a 8-course dinner that came with Lou Hei, sharkfins, prawns, roasted chicken, abalones, steam fish, noodles and cold desert. I brought a bottle of wine to toast for better year.
On first day of CNY, I prepared steamboat dinner. We had chicken, pork, beef, abalone, crab balls, pork balls, bamboo shoots, squids, fish fillets, mushrooms, vegetables & beehoon with tomyam and corn soups. While we were finishing the dinner, had we realized we missed out prawns! Since prawns is sis's fav, we threw few into the almost-dry-steamboat-pot. That's our steamboat dinner :)
Whereas mum and eldest bro at hometown, they had a simple reunion lunch. Other than few 'neutral' dishes, mum cooked nephew's fav hainanese chicken, bro's fav ngo hiang and sis's fav sea cucumber. This year, dad not around anymore. Mum still cooked his fav soy pork.
Although we were not together as a family during reunion dinner/lunch, we have everyone in our minds. That is most important.
